It’s been long believed that one’s IQ served as a strong predictor for success later in life. However, thanks to recent, GROUND BREAKING data and research, it is now proven that it isn’t! Instead, non-cognitive skills, specifically certain character strengths have been proven to be a much more accurate predictor. Based on the findings and research of character strengths in the book “How Children Succeed” by Paul Tough, the goal of this course is to understand the research and how you can give your children (of any age!) a strong foundation for success. About Carrie
Carrie graduated from the University of Connecticut in the United States in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science in Special Education. In 1998 she received her Masters of Art in Special Education and in 2002 she received a Masters of Education in School Administration and Leadership.
Carrie has worked as both a special educator and administrator in the United States where she was awarded "First Year Teacher of the Year" during her initial year of teaching. She continued to build upon that success by working in urban and suburban districts in Connecticut with an expertise in inclusionary interventions. Carrie's career progressed as a teacher leader and district administrator in America which afforded her a foundation that unknowingly prepared her for her role as the co-founder and CEO of the largest private educational agency in Singapore, where she moved to in 2005 with her husband's corporate relocation. Carrie began Live and Learn Asia in Singapore due to the lack of appropriate services for children in their mainstream classrooms. Carrie has been described as the “ground breaking founder” with regards to inclusive education in the region and how to support every child individually.
Her experiences in the United States, Asia and Europe have provided her with credible and practical knowledge of how to improve inclusive education practices so ALL children can succeed. In addition to her work with Live and Learn Asia, she consults with schools world wide, was the lead contributor for a Master’s Level Curriculum for an online special education degree and currently works as a "Real Time Coach" for teachers working in low income communities with a focus on improving classroom management and discipline.
In addition to the acclaim she has earned as an international educator, Carrie has been a noted parenting expert and currently serves as the spokesperson for the “Power of Play” for Mattel Fisher Price. She was named “Chief Mum” for www.MumCentre.com, a family of parenting websites in Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines and Australia. Along with her energetic and dynamic speaking engagements around the world, she has also written various articles on the topic of effective parenting as well and is authoring a series of books on practical strategies for encouraging healthy childhood development. Carrie’s goal is to help parents around the world improve their skills to raise powerful individuals in an ever changing world! “Like” her Facebook Page, Twitter feed and Instagram for regular parenting tips and strategies!
Carrie has lived the expat life in Europe and Asia and has recently repatriated back to the United States from where she oversees her Singapore corporation with her incredible South-East Asian based management team. She started Live and Learn Consulting in the United States to continue the work she is so passionate about in her home country.
